FOCUS - Serviced Residences

Stately entrance by Meritus
By Jeremy Colson

Singapore-based hotel group Meritus has entered the Bangkok serviced residence market by taking up 17 floors of Challenge Property’s 65-storey State Tower on Silom Road and turning the accommodation on these floors into 462 deluxe suites.

The Meritus Suites State Tower soft-opened on December 27 and is expected to be fully operational by the beginning of August this year.

The suites have their own private entrance and reception on the ground floor of the State Tower, which also has 650 condominium units, 460 office units and 90 retail units. High-speed elevators provide exclusive access to the suites located on the 21st to 26th and 51st to 61st floors.

State Tower is a 30-minute drive from Don Muang airport and a10-minute walk from Saphan Taksin Skytrain Station and the Chao Phraya River.

Meritus’s one- to three-bedroom suites have broadband Internet access and are decorated with a mixture of Thai and Western styles with a fully-equipped kitchenette and pantry.

Guests have access to the Meritus Club outdoor garden and Meritus Club Lounge on the 51st and 52nd floors. The three-storey Dome Restaurant on the top floor features an oyster bar, an Italian restaurant and an outdoor restaurant with seating for 160 people.

Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool on the 13th floor flanked by a poolside cafe, a fitness centre and shopping plaza. A business centre includes four meeting rooms, which can seat 10 to 20 people, boardroom-style.

Guests from the Asian and local corporate markets will fill the rooms for the immediate future. General manager, Mr Hermann Aha, said: “We are a bit late in opening for the worldwide market this season, but we expect some attention from the Asian market, especially from Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan.”
